Marbles from Italy are the finest in the world. Italians were the first to decode the quarrying and refining process of marbles. Italy produces marble like no other place in the world, thus making it special. A marble countertop makes a statement. It gives a sense of luxury and style.

All slabs of Italian marble may look the same to the untrained eye, but they are different. To begin with, why is Italian marble so popular? Why other marbles are not preferred?

Apart from the aesthetic beauty and style, Italian marbles are durable and long-lasting. You can use them for flooring, wall clad or surface top. Each piece of marble is unique in its way.

Types of Italian marble

There are various types of Italian marble available. Some of the most common varieties are Cararra, Calacatta, and Statuary.

Cararra

It is the most common Italian marble. It is named for the region it comes from. This marble is blue-grey or grey. It has light grey veining usually soft and feathering patterns are seen. This marble is priced best among the three types as it is less high-end.

Calacatta

If you are looking at building whiter and more elegant interiors for your home or office space then, Calacatta marble is your choice. The quarry of Calacatta marble is called Cararra but these are found in the lower parts of the quarry. Its veins are thick and dramatic. They provide much more variety than the Carrara marble and add contrast to the whiter background slabs. They are available in a range of colours from brown beige to dark grey.

Statuary

The name Statuary gives you the feel of the world’s best statues that are carved from marble. The Statuary marbles also come from the Cararra region. They are whiter than Calacatta marble and do not have much colour variation. They usually have dark grey veins providing contrast to the slab. The Statuary and Calacatta being high-end marble varieties have a higher price than the Cararra variety. Both Calacatta and Statuary are almost equally priced.

Boticinno Crema

It is a classic variety mostly used for flooring. It is soft and makes charming clear surfaces.

Perlato Sicilia

It is most often ivory based with discreet dark veins. It is used for luxurious and sombre interiors.
